The Lumbung Madani Indonesia Foundation operates on the island of Java, focusing on forest areas and surrounding rural communities. Java is Indonesia’s most densely populated island, where pressure on forests and poverty challenges are high, making our work crucial.
Our mission is to create food sovereignty and a sustainable economy by empowering local communities as key actors. We achieve this through two main pillars: community-based conservation and inclusive empowerment.
Our main programs and activities include:
Agroforestry and Carbon Program: We assist forest farmer groups in transitioning to agroforestry systems that increase income, food security, and carbon stocks. We build their capacity to engage in climate financing schemes such as carbon trading.
Youth and Women’s Empowerment Program: We train young people and marginalized groups in leadership, social entrepreneurship, and climate-smart agricultural technologies to prevent urbanization and create green jobs in villages.
Strengthening Local Food Barns: True to the name “Barns,” we revitalize community-based food reserve systems to anticipate the climate crisis and price fluctuations.
