"Towards Empowerment, Justice, and Equality" - this is our tagline. This being our fortieth year, we have redefined our tagline to summarise our Plan of Action for the coming decade.

Swadhina was established in 1986 as a Non-Governmental organisation focused on empowerment of women and children, based on sustainable development and self-reliant livelihood. In these forty years our focus has been empowerment of women and development of youth and children. We work majorly for the grassroots and indigenous communities in rural regions in five states of India. Our implementations are done through grassrotts women’s collectives that we form at our areas of work. We strive for gender equality and women’s empowerment by: * Ensuring equal land, property and livelihood rights *Enabling Natural Resource Management led by women *Promoting climate change mitigation through women-led actions *Preventing any forms of gender discrimination and violence against women * Enabling gender justice through right implementation of laws and actions * Ensuring better health and nutrition management * Promoting eco-friendly forms of agriculture and livelihood *Supporting women’s entrepreneurship. We motivate youth and children’s development through : * Promoting holistic development *Enabling access to quality education, health, and nutrition management *Engaging youth as climate and social justice warriors. *Involving youth in promoting gender equality actions *Enhancing youth leadership and capacity building. Swadhina is registered under the Societies Registration Act and the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act of the Government of India. Swadhina is a member of: 1. Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development 2. International Land Coalition 3. United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification 4. War Resisters’ International. Swadhina is led by women with 100% of the board members being women. Our new motto is: Towards Empowerment, Justice, and Equality which summarises our Plan of Action for the coming decade, focusing on empowerment of women and youth, ensuring climate and gender justice and building an equal world free of discrimination.
