Why Our Organization Was Founded

Social Transformation Defined (STAND) was founded to address critical issues faced by young women and underserved populations in rural and high-risk communities across South Africa. Recognising that many individuals endure constant violence and substance dependence, the organisation was established on the belief that everyone deserves a life free from these challenges.

STAND aims to empower vulnerable populations, recognising that societal change starts at the grassroots level. In addition to addressing gender-based violence, substance dependence, and poverty, STAND advocates for policy changes and promotes initiatives that uplift the rights of women and marginalised groups.

To achieve these goals, STAND has developed programs focused on education advocacy to equip professionals and communities with prevention strategies, community empowerment for capacity building, and improving health access for vulnerable women and girls. STAND strives to transform lives through these initiatives, foster a healthier and more inclusive society, and drive systemic change that impacts policy and societal norms.

Vision

To create a safe and inclusive society in South Africa, where every individual, particularly young women and underserved populations, can thrive free from violence and substance dependence while actively participating in shaping policies that promote their rights and well-being.

Mission

To empower young women and underserved populations in high-risk communities through targeted programs that combat gender-based violence, substance dependence, and poverty. We provide education, prevention, healthcare access, and community development initiatives while advocating for policy changes and promoting gender diversion efforts that enhance equity and access to vital services. Our mission is to foster resilience and promote healthier lifestyles, ensuring that marginalised voices are heard and represented in decision-making.
