The Pastoralist Resilience and Empowerment Initiative (PAREI) is a community-based organization founded in Samburu County, Kenya, to address the unique challenges faced by marginalized pastoralist communities. Our mission is to empower these communities by promoting social justice, gender equality, education, healthcare access, and sustainable livelihoods.
PAREI works with local leaders, women, youth, and vulnerable groups to build their capacity to advocate for their rights and improve their living conditions. Our programs include:
Legal Empowerment and Civic Education: We provide legal awareness and paralegal training to ensure that communities can access justice and understand their rights.
Reproductive Health and Education: Our health programs focus on improving maternal health, family planning, and sexual health, alongside increasing access to education, particularly for girls and women.
Gender Equality: We engage with communities to tackle gender-based violence, promote women’s participation in leadership, and enhance girls’ educational opportunities.
Youth Empowerment: PAREI creates platforms for youth to engage in leadership, gain vocational skills, and participate in decision-making processes.
Climate Change and Livelihoods: We support sustainable livelihoods by addressing climate change impacts and promoting adaptive strategies for pastoralist communities.
