Hoymas is a community based organization dealing with men who have sex with men(MSM) and male sex workers(MSW) . Hoymas was founded in the year 2009 to deal with issues affecting MSM & MSW Particularly in Nairobi, Kenya.
Sex work and same sex activities are criminalized in Kenya and thus MSM and MSW face a lot of challenges especially with regards to access to health services, violence and access to justice.
MSM & MSM face a lot of stigma and discrimination from health care providers in the public hospitals. This makes most of them go under ground & incapable of accessing health care, despite the fact that our constitutions guarantees the right to highest attainable health in Kenya. The situation is made worse by the fact that MSM and Sex workers have been termed as most at risk population (MARP’S) and lack of such services makes them more vulnerable to HIV. A majority of the staff at Hoymas are either MSM or MSW and the goal is to reduce stigma and Discrimination.clinic offers friendly health services i.e condoms, lubricants ,PrEP (Pre -exposure prophylaxis ), post exposure prophylaxis ,ART , T.B & Sti screening and treatment.
MSW and MSM also face a lot of violence particularly from the police, the partners (gender based violence) and clients . For these they require due process of the law. in this regard , Hoymas through the services of a competent lawyer trains them on their rights , how to prevent and respond to violence. the lawyer also post s bail for those arrested. Hoymas has also trained 4 paralegal who help the community in case they face violence. The paralegals help anyone in danger , document incidences of violence and follow up on matters reported to the police.

Hoymas is working closely working with KESWA (Kenya sex worker alliance) to decriminalize sex work in Kenya. This will do away with the laws that criminalize both sex work and same sex activities thereby allowing both MSM & MSW to enjoy their rights to the fullest.
