Women Nest was established in 2019 by a group of Women who use drugs and activists for harm reduction who are not community members. The organization works in the informal urban settlements in Nairobi County and its office are in Mathare slums. Its main mission is empowerment girls &women who use drugs to achieve health and human rights while its vision is to ensures girls and women who use drugs are healthy and empowered. Women Nest focuses on gendered risks and vulnerabilities of women who use drugs from different background which are not addressed by the mainstream HIV prevention programs and other programs targeting people who use drugs. Women Nest intervention thus include prevention of gender based violence through establishment of shelters/safe space, advocacy for universal coverage to ensure women who use drugs are given financial support in enrolling in the National Health Insurance(NHIF), providing comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights(SRHR) package, Economic empowerment, sensitization of health care workers on SRHR in context of drug use, addressing needs of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women who use drugs, addressing needs of children of drug users, conducting research to ensure evidence.
