Wetlands Conservation Organisation (WCO) is a Kenyan youth-led non-profit founded in 2022 and headquartered in Nairobi. The organisation is dedicated to restoring and conserving wetland ecosystems to address climate change, biodiversity loss, and water insecurity.
WCO works at the intersection of community engagement, science, and policy, promoting nature-based solutions to strengthen ecosystem resilience and improve livelihoods. Through initiatives such as the WEZESHA Project, the organisation empowers youth and local communities with knowledge, skills, and tools for sustainable wetland management and climate adaptation.
By fostering partnerships with governments, civil society, and local stakeholders, WCO advances inclusive, community-driven conservation approaches that protect critical ecosystems such as peatlands, rivers, and urban wetlands. Its long-term vision is to build resilient landscapes where wetlands are valued for their ecological, social, and economic importance, contributing to sustainable development and environmental justice in Kenya and beyond.
