THESODE is an NGO founded in 1999 and registered in 2001 with registration number BSZ/UVS/NM/VOL.IV/122/2001 under the Zanzibar Art and Music Council. Recently, THESODE is registered officially under the register general of Zanzibar and its registration number is 860.

VISION:
Community that is conversant with their rights and obligations and capable of controlling and utilizing their environment for their own development.

MISSION:
To sensitize, educate and advocate to the community regarding their rights and obligations and total development through theatre arts, seminars and workshops.

GOALS:
1. To create awareness among Zanzibar people on the challenges that threaten their lives and wellbeing and to help them develop strategies to meet those challenges.
2. To establish partnership and develop linkages with other organizations which strive the same course.
3. To increase working efficiency of THESODE through capacity building of the members artistically and administratively.
4. To use popular theatre to fight child sexual abuse, gender violence, gender discrimination, HIV and AIDS, substances abuse, child labour, civic education and other youth related problems.

THESODE operates in the following areas;
• Production of documentary films.
• Legal Aid and human rights awareness
• Production of radio soap opera programs.
• Puppetry shows and mimicry programmes.
• Life skills training and counselling.
• Preaching Peace and tolerance
• Stage performances & spots on social issues including HIV/AIDS.
• Social behaviour change communication
• Consultation

THESODE WORKING EXPERIENCE
Since its inception, THESODE has been working with many organizations, local and international. Local organization include ZANGOC, ZAIYADA, FAWE,, governmental institution such as Zanzibar AIDS Commission (ZAC), Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC), TASAF, Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, Ministry of Finance and Economic Affair, Ministry of Youth development of women and children. Among international organization are Family Health International (FHI), UNICEF, USAID, UNFPA, Save the Children, UN
