Somali for Human Rights and Development (SOHRAD) is a national, non-profit, and non-governmental organization established in 2022 in Somalia to address the pressing challenges of human rights violations, weak governance systems, poverty, and climate-related vulnerabilities affecting communities across the country. Founded by a group of committed development practitioners and human rights advocates, SOHRAD emerged in response to the urgent need for locally driven solutions that promote dignity, equality, and sustainable development.
SOHRAD works at the intersection of human rights, peacebuilding, and sustainable development, recognizing that long-term stability can only be achieved when communities are empowered, their rights are protected, and they actively participate in decision-making processes. The organization promotes justice, social inclusion, accountability, and equal opportunities by strengthening community structures, enhancing civic engagement, and advocating for policy reforms.
The SOHRAD used to hold and still manages monthly meetings for Women and the community in programs, panel discussions and debates about Human rights and its impacts on us. The SOHRAD focuses SOHRAD focuses on key priority areas aimed at promoting human rights, peace, and sustainable development in Somalia. The SOHRAD consists of more three hundred members of both genders and most of them are youth and people related to Human rights fields. In our SOHRAD the gender balance is highly respected and it is practiced in our management team.
