Building peace at grassroots Communities

Presence in: Uganda
Focus: Community Organizing, Education, Governance, Accountability & Transparency, Peace-building & Transitional Justice, Policy Advocacy

The origin of Register For Peace commitment to promote peace and transitional justice within the region can be found in the recognition that the Rwenzori region has been prone to mass violence for a long time. The Rwenzori region mainly the districts of Kasese and Bundibugyo in western Uganda since independence have always experienced turbulent times ranging from political strife and extreme ethnic violence. As a result many have lost lives and destruction of property has been immense and thus making the region to lag behind in terms of development compared to other areas. Our Vision is; To build a formidable network of volunteer peace corps who are passionate about peace activism and good governance across the region, with a mission of training and mentoring young individuals to become ambassadors of peace and agents of
transitional justice and good governance. Our program activities involve: promoting peace building and justice within the Rwenzori region; Human rights advocacy and rule of law; promoting civic education among communities in regard to rule of law; advocating for the youth and women to participate in democratic processes through the promulgation of UN Resolution 2250; the localization of the UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security Agenda; UNSCR 2250 on Youth, Peace, and Security Agenda and the AU mandate AU/DEC630XXVIII on elimination of gun violence and Article 17 of the African Youth Charter.
