"Access to Justice for All" - we ensure that basic legal information and services are not limited only to those with financial resource. Lack of access to the law for the poor violates human rights.

Presence in: South Africa
Focus: Community / Customary Land Rights, Family, Gender-based violence, Right to Information, Traditional / Customary Justice, Women's Rights

Approximately 2 out of 3 women in Africa live in poverty and do not have access to basic legal resources, including basic legal information and services. Our goal is to extend access to justice to all people and ensure that poverty does not unjustifiably hinder this basic human right.

Lady Liberty SA is a mobile legal office that travels to underprivileged and remote communities to empower women with access to pro bono basic legal information and case resolution around Domestic Violence (Protection and Harassment Orders), Sexual Assault, Marriage (Customary vs. Civil: In and Out of Community of Property), Divorce (Process, Assets, Maintenance and Children’s Rights), Maintenance, Wills and Labour.

Lady Liberty SA is leveraging off technology to disseminate its legal information and services.

We travel to different townships and rural areas around Gauteng in a mobile office and provide legal support to women between the ages of 16 – 59 years. We are also thrilled to announce that we have been selected as one of the first 100 Organisations in South Africa to receive Facebook Free Basics, a mobile application (mobi-site) that will virtually extend our services and nationally distribute vital legal information via mobile phones. We are also developing an SMS and USSD platform that will leverage off technology to increase our reach across the country and soon, other African countries.
