Founded in 2006, Just Like My Child Foundation has successfully delivered effective healthcare, education, micro-enterprise, social justice, and girls’ empowerment programs to over 200,000 individuals in nearly a hundred communities in Uganda. JLMC prides itself on being a lean organization that delivers long-term results while maintaining fiscal efficiency and accountability of the $621,000 average annual budget.

Over the past 17 years, JLMC has grown into a thriving organization with a dedicated board of directors, a devoted team of experts in nonprofit management and community development.

JLMC partners with local organizations, communities, and individuals to guide programming and overall strategy. For nearly two decades, JLMC has worked at the grassroots level, embedded within communities, to develop a level of cultural awareness and understanding that ensures communities are co-invested and impact is sustainable. Nearly every member of the JLMC team in Uganda was born and raised in the very communities where the organization works. Establishing this long-term commitment in a country of operation builds understanding and trust. It also earns influence with officials, schools, and the communities in which we work, ultimately supporting our long-term goal of eliminating harmful cultural practices.

Through JLMC’s work to provide a solution to health, social, and economic problems in disadvantaged and vulnerable communities, JLMC came to understand that by targeting adolescent girls, we had the unique opportunity to PREVENT new generations from ever entering the cycle of poverty and disease. As a result, JLMC took the steps to develop the Girl Power Project®, a replicable curriculum designed to eliminate harmful cultural practices, keep girls in school, safe from forced child marriage, early pregnancy, rape, and disease; and to empower girls to live the life of their choice.
