JAR is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) dedicated to refugee protection. JAR is also an implementing partner of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). JAR is actively engaged throughout the Asia Pacific region on refugee protection related activities including legal empowerment. This has included refugee legal aid trainings at the regional, sub-regional and national level, in: Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Nepal, Taiwan, and Thailand. Inside Japan, JAR has a legal department which continues to establish pro bono partnerships with law firms, the Japan Federation of Bar Associations, and the Japan Lawyers Network for Refugees. JAR is only compiling a roster of pro bono lawyers.
