Bringing victims closer to justice

Presence in: Nepal
Focus: Criminal Justice, Legal Aid & Public Interest Law, Peace-building & Transitional Justice

Human Rights and Justice Centre (HRJC) improves access to justice for victims of gross human rights violations in Nepal such as torture, enforced disappearance, extrajudicial killings, and conflict-related sexual violence. It was established by TRIAL International in 2017 in Nepal. HRJC applies a multifaceted approach, employing 3 main strategies: litigation before national and international (UN bodies), capacity building, and advocacy. HRJC provides free legal support to victims regardless of their background, or religious or political affiliation. It trains lawyers, government attorneys, and human rights defenders on documentation and litigation of cases before national and international avenues. Through the lawyers from its Roster, across the country, it litigates cases domestically and internationally to end impunity and enforce the rule of law. HRJC has legally supported the victims of the internal armed conflict of the country and also advocates on transitional justice mechanisms and processes.
