Global Rights Alert Initiative Limited(GRA) is a Civil Society Organization (CSO) whose mission is to make natural resources benefit the people. GRA’s work is rooted in governance and human rights framework which considers challenging inequality and injustice as central to inclusive sustainable development. GRA is committed to ensure that disadvantaged groups such as women, young people, elderly and Persons with disabilities (PWDs) benefit from sustainable exploitation of natural resources. GRA’s utilize empowerment approaches that suit the local context and dynamics while
leveraging on the community expertise to ensure positive outcomes.
For the past 10 years GRA has implemented 4 program areas i.e Corporate Accountability and Transparency, Human and Community resource rights, Gender and inclusiveness in Natural Resource, and institutional development and strengthening. And in our new strategic plan 2023-2027, Global Rights Alert is expanding her advocacy efforts through Promoting civic participation for community development and Enhancing inclusion in climate change governance for resilient communities. This has been as a result of the analysis of past impact, key pressing issues and shift in sector where climate change and renewable energy activism is highly important as Uganda will soon commence her first oil production in 2025, climate change incidence being witnessed in Globally and even now in Uganda and further discovery of rare earth minerals as a tool for renewable energy transitioning.
Currently, we are conducting a legal empowerment of our communities, human rights defenders, local government office, GRA staffs to enable positive civic engage among all stakeholders. The Grass root justice for Legal empowerment 101 course would provide brilliant ways of improving and benchmarking approaches as we strive to improve this strategy across all our program areas and build institutional capacity.
