Defence for Children International – Sierra Leone (DCI-SL) is a non-governmental organisation that was founded in 1998 to promote and protect the human rights of children in Sierra Leone. We are the Sierra Leonean chapter of the worldwide movement of Defence for Children International and the representative of ECPAT International in Sierra Leone.

Over the years, through our work in several districts across Sierra Leone, but also at regional and international levels, we have become the go-to organisation to seek Justice for Children who are victims/survivors of  Violence (sexual, domestic and other forms) and Exploitation including Trafficking, Forced Labour and Forced Prostitution and Children In Conflict With the Law. We also implement programmes to end gender-based violence including Female Genital Mutilation and Child Marriage and promote the economic inclusion of girls and young women, ensure access to quality education and supports youth activism.  Our mission is to respond to the specific needs of children, particularly those in vulnerable situations, and contribute to the continuous strengthening of the national child and community child protection and welfare system in Sierra Leone.

Through our work in providing socio-legal defence services and advocacy for children we have achieve justice for thousands of children in conflict or in contact with the law and reintegrated them in their communities. These achievements have been recognised by different institutions in Sierra Leone and abroad that have given us awards and other forms of recognition and rewards.
