BLAST is the largest specialised national non-governmental legal services organisation in Bangladesh. It provides comprehensive legal services to formal and informal justice mechanisms, through legal awareness programmes, and provides information/ counselling/advice, referral, mediation, litigation (based on a means and merits test), and conducts legal research and legislative advocacy, as well as strategic litigation on equality and discrimination.
It is the only organisation operating from the frontlines of the formal justice system (village/magistrates’ courts) to the Supreme Court. With a track record of more than 30 years, BLAST’s highly experienced staff (paralegals, lawyers, researchers, rights advocates) across the country have expertise in civil, criminal, family, and constitutional law, and extensive networks within the justice system.
Its structure, embedded in Bar Associations, whose leadership are engaged in its management at the district level, enables it to engage pro bono lawyers across the country for quality advice and representation. Currently, BLAST operates in 23 districts across the country through district and project offices, supported by 270+ staff who collaborate with its network of partner organisations and 2600+ pro bono lawyers.
