Bangladesh Human Rights Commission (BHRC), established in 1987, is dedicated to promoting and protecting human rights, fundamental freedoms, justice, equality, dignity and the rule of law. BHRC works to raise human rights awareness and strengthen access to justice, particularly for vulnerable, disadvantaged and marginalized individuals and communities.

BHRC undertakes human rights education, legal assistance and consultation, investigation and documentation of human rights concerns, advocacy, community engagement and peaceful conflict resolution. Its areas of work include the protection of women and children, prevention of torture and ill-treatment, protection of detainees and prisoners, workers’ rights, minority and indigenous communities’ rights, and combating discrimination, violence and other forms of injustice.

The organization conducts seminars, workshops, training programmes, conferences, publications, awareness campaigns, election observation and humanitarian activities during disasters and emergencies. BHRC operates through a network of branches in Bangladesh and abroad and promotes cooperation, networking and knowledge sharing among human rights defenders and civil society actors.

BHRC participates in national, regional and international human rights initiatives and forums and seeks to contribute to the advancement of human rights, peace, accountability, legal empowerment and access to justice at grassroots, national and international levels.
