Life Mtaani Community is a youth-led organization based in the Mathare informal settlement, Nairobi, Kenya. We are dedicated to empowering marginalized young people by providing them with creative outlets, practical skills, mentorship, and leadership opportunities. Our work focuses on equipping youth to become confident, responsible, and innovative changemakers in their communities.
We achieve this through a combination of programs that address multiple dimensions of youth development:
Creative Arts & Expression: Using storytelling, film, music, and other art forms to help young people express themselves, develop talent, and gain recognition.
Life Skills & Personal Development: Training youth in communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, emotional wellness, and financial literacy to navigate personal and professional challenges.
Education & Vocational Training: Offering practical skills like tailoring, IT literacy, and entrepreneurship to increase employability and self-reliance.
Youth Leadership & Community Engagement: Mentoring youth to lead community projects, advocate for social change, and participate in decision-making processes that affect their lives.
Environmental Justice & Sustainability: Engaging youth in tree planting, clean-ups, and awareness campaigns to promote environmental stewardship and address inequities in access to safe, clean spaces.
Social Justice & Advocacy: Promoting youth rights, gender equality, and equitable opportunities, while addressing issues like poverty, unemployment, and marginalization in informal settlements.
Through these initiatives, Life Mtaani Community creates a safe and supportive environment where young people can grow, collaborate, and contribute positively to society. Our vision is to see every young person equipped, empowered, and confident to become a leader and innovator in their community.
