Regional Paralegal Exchange

GJN-SEA conducted the first-ever regional paralegal exchange in Bangkok, Thailand.

More than 60 grassroots justice defenders attended the exchange–with 32 community-based paralegals from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, and Thailand.

The exchange centered on four cross-cutting advocacy themes, all crucial for fostering a safe environment and equipping paralegals with effective tools — security, recognition and sustainability, capacity-building, and solidarity.

Joint Convening with Global Learning Agenda

GJN-SEA and the Global Learning Agenda convened for inter-regional exchange in Palawan, Philippines.

The joint convening focused on exchanging knowledge and experiences on legal empowerment strategies and initiatives among global and regional participants.

Key discussions included Participatory Action Research, strengthening democracy, and inter-regional strategy sharing.

Regional Consultation on Environmental Rights

Representatives from grassroots communities and member organizations of GJN-SEA in the Philippines, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Indonesia gathered to review the draft ASEAN Declaration on Environmental Rights.

As it stands, the declaration fails to address the urgent and pressing needs of ASEAN member countries in the face of the escalating climate crisis and environmental degradation.

The position paper and summary of recommendations from this consultation were submitted directly to ARIEL, a member of the working group, for consideration.

We carry forward our momentum, solidarity,
and commitment to justice. Together, we will continue strengthening our advocacy and creating meaningful change!
