5.2 Organizing Protection and Funding to Level the Playing Field

While the UNFCCC and Carbon Standards are specific areas to influence carbon policy, there are broader global spaces that have strong impact on how and whether communities are able to respond effectively to carbon projects. Over and over again, surveys of the Grassroots Justice Network show that the top two challenges for grassroots advocates are 1. Protection and 2. Funding. Being able to safely speak up without fear of retaliation – and having access to unrestricted funding to do so – is necessary for effective local justice. We find that these asks are reinforcing because access to funds can also help grassroots activists plan and respond more effectively.

Watch these two videos to hear more about what network members are doing to respond to these challenges – and how they are linked to global advocacy.
