3.3 How might these projects impact men and women differently, and what should we do?

Carbon projects can affect men and women differently, especially in how they access land, benefit from resources, and participate in decision-making. Women are often excluded from consultations and benefit-sharing, which deepens existing inequalities. Women’s knowledge and leadership are essential for fair and just carbon projects. Ensuring women’s voices are heard requires inclusive negotiation strategies, fair representation in leadership roles, and the use of gender transformative tools that allow women to shape how projects are designed and implemented.

Watch this video to hear more from frontline justice advocates about how men and women are impacted differently in a carbon project and how to proactively respond.
