SHED (Serving Humanity for Empowerment and Development) is a local organization established in 2017 in Liberia by long-term employees of Finn Church Aid (FCA) and is continuing the implementation of some of FCA’s former activities, following the end of its work with local partners in 2017 and decision to exit. The organization (SHED) is officially registered in Liberia and received its registration certificate and tax identification numbers with its thematic focus is in livelihoods, peace building, education and WATSAN (water, hygiene and sanitation). Under its peace building thematic focus, SHED is continuing the overall management and implementation – along with RHRAP and AFELL – of the remainder of FCA’s access to justice project funded by the European Union under its EIDHR scheme, which is ongoing in Lofa, Bong and Nimba counties until January 2019. The two years project is aimed at contributing to improving the Criminal Justice System (CJS) of Liberia and protecting the fundamental human rights and dignity of community residents. SHED in collaboration with RHRAP & AFELL is providing trainings for correction officers, police officers, traditional, religious and community leaders, inmates (pre-trial detainees) and judges. The project has a special focus on women and youth, and provides free legal representation for pre-trial detainees within the Gbarnga, Voinjama, and Sanniquille prisons.

SHED is continuing other projects in agribusiness, poultry and feed production in Bong and rural Montserrado counties through FCA committed funding. FCA has committed to financially support SHED’s first operational year and is providing the necessary capacity-building and support for SHED.
