Eco-Justice Ethiopia is a Civic and Social Organization in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It has accordingly been registered with the Ethiopian Agency for Civil Society Organization and given legal personality as a board-led Non-profit organization. It has the mission of utilizing the power of the law to defend nature, combat climate change, and fight for environmental justice for all. In addition, the organization works for, the adoption and enactment of laws that ensure the prevention of environmental damage and provide adequate and appropriate remedies whenever damage occurs to the environment. The organization envisions an environmentally conscious society that recognizes its rights and responsibilities, together with a just legal system that defends nature, combats climate change, and fights for a healthy environment for all. Major programs and activities of the organization are multi-stakeholder workshops on sound chemical management, mercury-free Ethiopia, the road to zero waste, enhancing Ethiopia’s participation in the UNFCCC, documentary for social change, awareness raising, advocacy, research and consultancy, continental cooperation, strategic chemical management, training and experience sharing, promoting climate justice activism in Ethiopia, and consultancy. The organization is actively engaging in awareness creation programs (i.e. training, workshops, seminars, and promotions on public media and social media) on the issues of participatory justice. Ensuring environmental justice considers, the involvement of out-casted but highly contributing and heavily burdened environmental actors in protecting the environment, tackling the problems, and decision-making. The organization also works on public interest litigations to use the law as an instrument to defend nature. The organization has experienced lawyers who can take environmental law violation cases to the court of law or bring the parties to the dispute into negotiation/mediation.
