The Institute on Statelessness and Inclusion and the Norwegian Refugee Council have just launched a research report and toolkit focused on statelessness in the context of the Syrian refugee crisis.
The research report looks at the vulnerabilities of stateless persons from Syria who have become refugees in neighboring countries (Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq, and Egypt) as well as the risk of new cases of statelessness arising among the refugee population in these places. The report will soon be available in Arabic as well.
ISI and NRC have also drawn on the research findings to produce a toolkit to help those engaged in Syrian refugee response efforts (in the Middle East and around the world) to better understand and respond to issues of statelessness that may intersect with their work. The toolkit includes explanatory texts, factsheets, case studies, good practice examples and training videos and is available online at www.syrianationality.org.
