Participatory rangeland resource mapping as a valuable tool for village land use planning in Tanzania

The article details how to successfully carry out participatory rangeland mapping and explains the beneficial impact this process can have on village land use planning (VLUP). Based on a mapping exercise in two villages in Tanzania through the Sustainable Rangeland Management Project (SRMP), the article finds a participatory approach to rangeland mapping has proved to be a vital and powerful information-generating tool for negotiating and managing village land use agreements.
