Latin America is experiencing a period of democratic backsliding marked by the concentration of power, the criminalization of protest, and shrinking spaces for public participation. In this context, rights are restricted and dominant narratives of development and progress are being impose to delegitimize community demands. Drawing on three years of participatory action research with ACIJ (Argentina), FIMA (Chile), and ProDESC (Mexico), this document examines how legal empowerment enables communities to challenge these narratives, sustain territorial struggles, and strengthen collective power. It shows that the fight for justice unfolds not only within institutions, but also in the realm of meaning.
