Land Governance in Brazil: A geo-historical review of land governance in Brazil

This paper offers a geo-historical review of land governance in Brazil by analyzing key paradoxes regarding land use and agricultural policies.  To better understand these paradoxes, the paper analyses the historical process of regional development in Brazil and the structural and economic conditions that have contributed to the diverse social development of rural areas.The paper concludes by discussing trends in Brazilian territorial development that affect both rural and urban spaces.
