OPDP is dedicated to championing for the rights of the minority and indigenous Ogiek community. We envision a society that recognizes and upholds human rights and the fundamental freedoms for all. One that also enables all persons to participate effectively in a free and democratic manner governed by the rule of law.
We combine practical programmatic ideas and effective advocacy to address the challenges facing the indigenous Ogiek community. Our work is based on the values of service, justice, fairness and equity for all, community participation and involvement, transparency and accountability.
OPDP was formed in 1999 by Ogiek elders, opinion leaders, farmers and professionals who were frustrated with the constant injustices the Ogiek faced.
The Ogiek Peoples’ Development Program (OPDP) endeavors to create an environment of tranquility upon which human life and nature prospers for posterity.
Our mission is to promote and protect the cultural, socio-economic, political, environmental and collective rights for sustainable development of the minority and indigenous Ogiek community.
