Women’s Effort for Community Development and Empowerment (WECDE) is a registered Community Based Organization that was founded on 3rd March 2009. It provides support to marginalized communities across Bududa District in Uganda. The formation of WECDE was out of deep aspiration by a group of young, committed and passionate women and girls to respond to the plights of the most disadvantaged/vulnerable groups of people for example; children, youth, women/girls, disabled, elderly, refugees impacted greatly by political conflict, diseases, extreme poverty, inequalities, unemployment and other detriments in Bududa District, South Sudan. WECDE responds to their plights by designing various programs from which different projects are implemented and these thematic Programs lie under: Education, Health, Environmental conservation, Agriculture, Human rights protection and good governance, Water and Sanitation. We hope that by empowering the most vulnerable people in building communities, we can create long-lasting/sustainable change through generations. We use very flexible approaches with a strong emphasis on active and inclusive participation from our beneficiaries, their skills and talents. The overall Goal is to have; “Empowered vulnerable people through becoming self-reliant in a community, living quality and dignified lives in peaceful co-existence”. WECDE’s Vision is to have; “peaceful, healthy and productive community that lives in conducive environment”. The Mission statement of WECDE is; “to provide the skills and knowledge to the under privileged strata of the community so that they can recognize and use the resources around them for holistic empowerment and development”.
