The Lamu Coastal Indigenous People’s Right for Development, here-in-after referred to as L-CIPRD, is a community based organization established as a non-political, non-sectarian and voluntary group of members for the furtherance of the objectives as stated below:-
L-CIPRD was formed in June 2018 after working with SaveLamu since 2010, the moment when the Government of Kenya intended to implement mega projects in Lamu i.e. LAPSSET, coal power plant, Oil and Gas etc. Save Lamu is fully focusing on Environment leaving behind other crucial aspects such as education, social, economic, poverty, gender equality, culture etc. We spotted the gap and saw the need to plug it by forming an organization that will consider the aforementioned aspects in order to articulate and develop a collective strategic agenda to guide advocacy efforts towards realization and protection of indigenous people’s right and historical injustices considering existing gaps and emerging opportunities. The organization’s Goal, Mission and Vision are as follow
:-GOAL To realise the Indigenous Rights Protection for and with people at the Coastal level.
VISIONTo protect and Equitable access to Indigenous People’s Rights to Eradicate poverty and contributes to dignity and identity, hence improving the living standards of the people and ensuring environmental health in Lamu- Coastal.
MISSIONTo have a coastal Alliance of indigenous civic societies working together to be at the highest level of Rights protection for developments in Lamu County.
