Mission: To develop legal empowerment among disadvantaged groups, engage in research, education and advocacy of human rights, public interest and development law, and promote the development of civil society in China.

University-based humanities and social science research institute. The inspiration for this establishment comes from the public interest law movement, the “law and development” movement, and the “developmental law” campaign in Southeast Asian countries.

With a history of more than 80 years, Wuhan University School of Law is one of the preeminent centers of legal education and research in China. In its history, the faculty and students have always believed that legal theory should be combined with practice, and the rapid development of practice-oriented teaching and legal clinical training has confirmed this belief. With this concept and tradition in mind, we established this institute with law as its foundation and public interest, development, and human rights as its breakthrough points, to advocate for and engage in multi-disciplinary and practice-oriented research.

The Institute has set up a Consultant Committee made up of law professors who enjoy a good reputation and widespread respect. These professors decide on important issues that guide the direction of the Institute. The main tasks of the Institute are to carry out legal research, teaching and publishing; and the promotion of public interest, development and human rights law under the guidance of the Consultant Committee.
