PRERONA is a women-led feminist non-governmental organization based in Satkhira, Bangladesh, established in 2006 by a group of dedicated social workers. Since its inception, the organization has been committed to empowering vulnerable women in coastal regions who often face persecution, exploitation, and gender-based violence driven by social stigma, societal norms, and the impacts of natural disasters. PRERONA is registered with the Department of Social Services, Department of Women’s Affairs, NGO Affairs Bureau, and the National Board of Revenue, and holds a valid trade license and BIN registration.
The organization primarily focuses on women’s empowerment and gender equality, working to reduce violence and discrimination while strengthening resilience among marginalized communities. Since its formation, PRERONA has actively engaged with local, national, and international stakeholders, including government and donor agencies, by identifying critical issues in coastal areas and developing innovative, community-based solutions that deliver tangible outcomes.
Over the years, PRERONA has expanded its development focus to include climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction (DRR), localization, nature-based solutions, biodiversity conservation, non-economic loss and damage, livelihood development, humanitarian response, and social business initiatives. The organization also prioritizes good governance, capacity building, and advocacy to ensure equitable access to resources for vulnerable populations. PRERONA strongly upholds inclusiveness across its programs, staffing, and governance, with a particular focus on persons with disabilities, transgender individuals, ethnic minorities, and other marginalized communities
