Plogging Kenya is a youth-led environmental initiative dedicated to promoting cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable communities through active participation, awareness creation, and behavior change. Founded on the simple concept of combining jogging with litter collection, the initiative transforms everyday physical activity into a powerful tool for environmental stewardship and community mobilisation.
At the heart of Plogging Kenya’s mission is empowering young people to take responsibility for their environment while fostering a culture of sustainability across schools, neighbourhoods, and public spaces. The organisation runs regular Plogging events in parks, estates, riverbanks, highways, and urban centres, where participants collect, sort, and document waste to strengthen data-driven environmental action. These activities encourage physical wellness, teamwork, and civic responsibility while reducing pollution and raising public awareness.
One of Plogging Kenya’s flagship programs is the Zero School Waste Project, an innovative model that equips students with knowledge and practical skills on waste segregation, recycling, composting, and circular economy principles. The program integrates training, school cleanups, environmental clubs, and Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) systems to measure behavioural change and waste reduction. It has fostered partnerships with schools, government agencies, and civil society organisations, earning recognition at the 10th Circular Economy Conference, where Plogging Kenya received the SPICE Award (Runner-up) for excellence in public awareness and behaviour change.
Beyond cleanups, Plogging Kenya also engages in environmental education, community dialogues, climate advocacy, and youth mobilisation. Through campaigns and collaborative projects, the initiative inspires collective action while shaping a generation of environmentally conscious young leaders committed to building a cleaner, greener Kenya.
