The Organization for Women Empowerment (OWE) is a Liberia-based non-profit advancing gender equity and uplifting some of the country’s most underserved groups, including widows, single mothers, adolescent girls at risk, and marginalized women such as disabled women. Founded to bridge the gap between privileged and underserved women, OWE operates with the mission of empowering women and girls to become who or what they choose without validation from society, while envisioning a world where women’s safety and economic empowerment are ensured. The organization’s work spans Montserrado and Bomi Counties, with partial engagement in Nimba and Gbarpolu Counties through partnerships. Its programs address critical needs through initiatives like the Women’s Economic Empowerment Program (WEEP), Women Rock the Capital (WRC) leadership clinics, Girls Empowerment Support Program (GESP), Healthy Relationships & SGBV awareness and counseling, and Women’s Land Rights advocacy, enabling women to secure property and economic stability.
Grounded in principles of transparency, accountability, non-discrimination, and respect for humanity, OWE takes a holistic approach to empowerment through the pillars of Engage, Embrace, Empower. By offering micro-loans, agricultural support, leadership development, vocational training, and advocacy platforms, the organization not only improves women’s livelihoods but also amplifies their voices in political and policy spaces at both national and sub-national levels. Its diverse partnerships include membership in the Civil Society Organizations Working Group on Land Reforms, the Community Forestry Working Group, Women NGO Secretariat of Liberia (WONGOSOL), National CSO Council and the Girls Not Brides network. With a dedicated leadership team and strong community presence, OWE continues to transform lives by turning fear and frustration into hope and opportunity, ensuring that women and girls have the tools and confidence to shape a brighter future.
