Meru Sema Tena is a CBO based in Meru, building community power through access to information. Our mission is to empower the community as per Article 1.1,1.10 and 174 of the Kenyan Constitution to understand their rights in public participation, their sovereign power in governance and how to manage their rights in their own communities. Meru Sema Tena, is derived from the power of peoples’ voice, where ‘sema’ is a Swahili word meaning ‘speak out’. Through our work, we empower the community to identify injustices in children rights, gender justice, governance, lands and customary rights, and to use the law to advocate against injustice.
