The Haven for Adolescent Girls and Young Women (HAGYW) is a community-based organization that was established in 2019 but registered in 2021 by a group of Adolescent Girls and Women and is a member of Alliance of Women Advocating for Change. HAGYW aims to amplify the voices of AGYW and promote meaningful involvement of Rural AGYW at high risk to demand for Gender-equality and Justice. HAGYW particularly focuses on addressing the root causes of human rights violations, specifically; stigma, discrimination, limited access to comprehensive quality HIV, TB, SRHR including Abortion services and GBV services, lack of evidence of Rural Women’s resilience and
limited involvement of Rural Women in their Communities decision making.
HAGYW fulfills the above mandate through Advocacy, policy analysis, consultations, Research and documentation, trainings of law enforcement authorities to address the gaps in the legal and policy frameworks, Institutional strengthening and mentorship of grassroots AGYW through trainings in feminist transformational leadership, collective organizing and movement building; resource mobilization and basic management skills; livelihood development and
economic empowerment to expand their range of choices; training of service providers and capacity development of AGYW to create demand for a robust referral and support system; strengthen linkages and referrals, addressing stigma and discrimination; and ensure scale up of access to comprehensive quality HIV,TB & SRHR including GBV services for grass roots adolescent girls and young women at high risk in Uganda.
