The founders of Jenga Future grew up in marginalized communities where clean water once flowed abundantly from rivers surrounded by lush forests. However, over the years, unsustainable practices like deforestation and poor agricultural methods have degraded the land, destroyed habitats, and disrupted ecosystems. These practices, compounded by the effects of climate change, have left communities vulnerable to landslides, loss of livelihoods, and declining food productivity.
This cycle of environmental destruction has deepened poverty and weakened the community’s ability to adapt to a changing climate. Inspired by their childhood experiences and the Swahili word “Jenga,” meaning “build,” the founders established the organization to help communities rebuild their relationship with nature, strengthen their resilience, and secure a sustainable future. Jenga Future Initiative works to empower current and future generations to break this cycle and thrive in the face of climate challenges.
