Our Story
Ignite is a non-profit, women-led CBO based in Kajiado County. Founded on the need to empower the community in leadership and governance processes, we implement through various forums and projects that seek to create a platform to enhance involvement in policy making and development matters for the betterment of self, the community and the general economy of the society. Ignite supports those at the heart of the community, particularly the girl child, women and youth to help shape their destiny and realize their dreams. The strength of the community lies in the power of the marginalized. Building the knowledge, skills and capacity of these groups to lay the necessary foundation will enable a level playing ground for all, to achieve gender equality and to ensure inclusivity and equity in governance processes.
Mentorship Program
Ignite ensure that the girl child is not disadvantaged in her education, by seeking to find ways to help her stay and excel in school. We have a gender-specific mentorship program in schools, targeting the girl child with the aim of increasing school retention rate, self-confidence and ambition. The program entails imparting Life Skills, Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health (ASRH), Menstrual Health Management (MHM) and distributing dignity packs (sanitary towels, bar soap and underwear) to the girls. We work with vulnerable populations in Kajiado North, and Kajiado Central. It is through this that we joined the Health Network (HENNET) to amplify health advocacy in Kajiado County.
Leadership & Governance Program
Ignite also runs a Leadership and Governance Program that entails hosting civic education workshops and consultative forums on gender based budgeting, public participation and social audits that are in line with government processes. We have organized and facilitated Gender Based Budgeting and Civic Education Forums with the aim of increasing women, youth and PLWD participation in governance processes.
