Gems to Jewels is a Newark, New Jersey–based nonprofit focused on supporting justice-involved and at-risk youth through mentorship, literacy, and reintegration programs. Our work addresses the root causes of youth justice involvement, including educational gaps, lack of mentorship, trauma, and limited access to opportunity.

We work directly with young people in schools, juvenile detention settings, and community spaces to provide structured programs that focus on literacy development, life skills, leadership, and positive identity building. Our organization hosts youth book clubs, mentorship programs, and reintegration support initiatives that help young people reconnect with education, strengthen family relationships, and develop pathways toward employment and community engagement.

Gems to Jewels also works alongside families and community partners to support participatory defense efforts and advocacy for youth impacted by the justice system. Our goal is to help young people transition from cycles of harm and incarceration toward stability, opportunity, and leadership within their communities.
