● Date Founded: July 1995
● Brief history of organization: FECOFUN was established as a representative organization of Community Forestry Users with the main objective to advocate collective tenure rights of communities in forests, capacity building and knowledge sharing of the community members through nationwide networking. Since its establishment FECOFUN continuously contributing for the protection of community forest rights through policy advocacy and community capacity building at ground level.
● Vision: Self-reliance and empowerment of community forest users, through the application of socio-economic justice and equity in the sustainable management and utilization of community forests.
● Mission Statement: To promote and protect the rights of community forest users through capacity strengthening, economic empowerment, sustainable resource management, technical support, policy advocacy, national and international networking and to uphold the values of inclusive democracy, gender equality, and social justice.
● Long Term Goals: To develop means of livelihoods and to generate opportunities to reduce poverty through sustainable management of forest and utilization of resources, and applying consensus-based decision-making process in CFUGs. And, to promote and support for the participation of all sections of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) in policy-making/decisions, and its implementation through CFUGs to uphold the values of good governance, community empowerment, self-respect, self-reliance and the approaches of consensus-oriented decisions.
