EHRCO’s vision is to see that people in Ethiopia enjoy a peaceful democratic system where human rights are protected, and rule of law prevails.
EHRCO’s mission is to contribute to the efforts of the Ethiopian people to strengthen a democratic system and to promote, monitor, and defend human rights and rule of law in Ethiopia. The mission statement indicates EHRCO maintains a realistic understanding of its role to contribute among multiple actors in the country.
Given the above vision and mission, the goals of EHRCO are:
Ethiopian Human Rights Council (EHROC), is an independent, non-governmental and not-for-profit organization established in 1991 for the protection of Human Rights, contributes to democratization and observance of the rule of law in Ethiopia. EHRCO was founded by 32 members from academia, businesses and professions. EHRCO stands as a pioneer national CSO with a mandate to monitor, investigate and report human rights violations, election observation and monitoring, human rights educations, advocacy, legal aid and research in the country.
Situation monitoring, investigating, and reporting on the human rights situation in Ethiopia at its core, EHRCO, branded itself with its one-of-a-kind human rights monitoring reporter. Over the years EHRCO has investigated, documented, and reported on (often serious and widespread) human rights abuses. In addition to its seminal human rights monitoring reports and documenting, EHRCO has specialized in targeted monitoring such as prison, trial process, and election monitoring.
EHRCO continued with resilience to make the most out of the limited resources and its rich organizational asset. With the crucial support of members and friends of human rights, the commitment of the staff and the leadership, ingenious local funding sources.
