Empowered Citizenry Against Poverty (ECAP) NGO was conceptualized in 2018 and founded June 2021 by likeminded Men and women who saw a need to fight injustices against women in the Gusii community of Nyanza Province in Kenya. This community among others, practice female genital mutilation (FGM) among other injustices. Empowered Citizenry Against Poverty (ECAP) is a national Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) formed to empower and fight injustices in communities. It was registered with the NGO Coordination Board in 2021 as a regional NGO operating in Nyamira County. ECAP has taken a national outlook because we are working with poor and vulnerable communities/groups in Kenya, and operating in five Counties: Nyamira, Kisumu, Kisii, Homabay and Bomet. ECAP has a successful track record, and is run by a firmly committed members and volunteers. ECAP operates in the following Thematic areas: good governance, Advocacy & Human Rights, Education & Literacy, water and sanitation, HIV/AIDS and drug abuse substances, environment and climate Change mitigation with the other cross-cutting issues of Renewable Energy, food security, biodiversity protection, and social-economic empowerment of the community people. ECAP operates under the stewardship of an elected Board comprising women leaders of integrity bound together by their empowerment of women.
