BCNP is committed to seeking pathways for release for long-termers and efforts to invest in our communities, not the carceral system. We work to educate and mobilize the public about the harms of life and long-term sentencing policies and the conditions experienced by those sentenced to life as we organize our communities to end death by incarceration. Our goals include: 1) mapping out a mass commutations campaign seeking a blanket executive order for parole eligibility to all people sentenced to twenty years or more; 2) a focused campaign shedding light on de-facto solitary confinement conditions in IL prisons; and 3) coordinating internal and external education on historic and present day strategies to interrupt the harms of life and long-term sentencing policies, including equipping directly impacted people to pursue systemic change of the carceral system.
