BANCHTE SHEKHA (BS) is one of the largest women and children’s development organisation based in Jessore, working since 1976 to improve the socio-economic condition of women in that particular geographical region with a long-term objective to empower women and reduce poverty. BS is currently in operation in 11 District and 41 sub-district (upazilas) across the country. Since its inception, BS has been working with thematic focus on Social & Human Rights Education, Economic Development through Income Generating Activities and protecting rights of women and poor men in community through legal awareness and legal aid. BS initiated legal assistance programme in 1987 with a grant from to ensure protection of human rights, particularly women, with specific provisions of civil and family law. Through this programme, BS provided extensive legal awareness, orgnised series of training on family laws and supported with legal assistance at the court level.
