AWEIK is a Kenya-based, national non-profit member organization working to advance the meaningful participation and inclusion of women in the energy and extractives sector value chains. We collaborate with partners across Africa to address systemic barriers that limit women’s access to opportunities, resources, and decision-making spaces within these traditionally male-dominated industries.
Our work focuses on four key pillars: capacity building, policy advocacy, business development, and mentorship. Through targeted training programs, we equip women and youth with technical, entrepreneurial, and financial literacy skills to enhance their participation in the sector. Our mentorship initiatives connect emerging professionals and entrepreneurs with experienced leaders to support career growth and enterprise development.
AWEIK also engages in policy and advocacy efforts to promote gender-responsive frameworks in energy, mining, and natural resource governance. We work closely with communities, government, and industry actors to strengthen women’s voices in decision-making processes, particularly in resource-rich and underserved regions.
Our programs integrate cross-cutting themes including business and human rights, fiscal justice, access to markets, climate and gender justice, energy transition, environmental protection, and safety. We also support community-level engagement to enhance awareness of rights, promote accountability, and strengthen women’s ability to participate in governance and benefit equitably from natural resources.
Through our work, we aim to build a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable energy and extractives sector.
