ARTIGO 19 Brasil (ARTICLE 19 Brazil) is a civil society organization established in 2007, and based in São Paulo, which is part of the international Article 19 network, with 9 offices around the world. Created to promote and defend freedom of expression, as stated in the Art 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, it has been working on digital rights and protection of journalists through research, policy analysis, training and strategic litigation in the last 15 years in the country. This work has led to proposals on new legislation such as the Marco Civil da Internet and the Access to Information Act, and justice reform debates, as part of the efforts from Brazilian civil society to democratize access to justice and propose policy reforms for the sector.

Through its Legal Reference Center, it has recently started a legal empowerment program for women journalists and artists to increase awareness on freedom of expression, right to information, and the use of legal tools to access justice. We intend to combine legal empowerment practices and justice reform analysis and proposals to tackle the new frontiers of digital life and attacks against freedoms.
