The ministry of Constitution and home affairs should be involved on the process of amending laws which do not favor girls rights. In this movement young girls should be empowered on the rights against the laws available and the need of addressing or advocating for amendments of particular laws. This could only be possible by using legal empowerment cycle, bringing them together from different schools, empower on their rights and guide them on how they can advocate fro their rights.

I hope to learn good practices through other countries experience on how the harmonization has been done, to acquire new advocacy techniques and to share them in our organization and other partners in movements.

When the policies has been implemented discriminatory or there are barriers identified for particular groups to have full access to their basic rights. I’ve worked for a while now in refugees’ rights situation in my Country where there are many policies who limit access for refugees to their basic rights such as education and health facilities.

To address this issue, based on our experience, solid works from paralegals is important specially if there are numbers of refugees involved as a paralegal or in their direct involvement in any advocacy efforts regarding their right. Amplified voices from the person of concern is key to identified necessity, strategize power and further steps, and executing the strategy to fight injustice. Of course, there should be also an empowerment works be conducted to strengthen capabilities of all parties.

Customary law-makers are a critical part of change-making in rural communities. Implementation of laws made by state actors usually meet obstacles without the involvement of leaders at the local levels. Some of these leaders are community gatekeepers, members, religious leaders and people who though do not have any clear position in the communities can mobilize and organize people to influence change.

The injustice is my community is Land grabbing and insecurity. The Most suitable government entity to work on this is the Ministry of Land and Housing, Uganda Land commission and the respective local governments. The voices of the people who suffer land grabs must be amplified through legal empowerment and training of grass root Paralegals to help defend the defenseless.

The injustice that I focus on is gender based violence. I believe that objectively the legal framework to protect victims currently exists but progress and protection is hampered by certain social norms, lack of education/ information as well as training among other key stakeholders. The above should be addressed by community paralegals who understand the issues and narratives around gender roles and violence in their particular communities as well as how best to assist victims. Education and advocacy initiatives should be embarked upon within these communities to explore gender roles, issues around violence, protections afforded to persons within the law and the role that police/courts play in providing such protection. Training programs around these issues should also be designed and advocated for police officials so that they too are aware of the duty placed upon them by the law to assist victims e.g. once an interim/ final protection order has been granted that police respond to calls for assistance from victims and arrest the offender if not assist the victim to find their way to a women’s shelter/place of safety if available.

In Bangladesh discrimination based on gender, work and descent are prevalent in every spectrum of society. Women and transgender communities are lagging behind in accessing their rights, dalit communities are not treated with equal respect. The discrimination is realized in terms of education, health care, land rights etc. There are legal frameworks to protect them. However, it’s largely limited to black and white. Community paralegals can increase their advocacy to ensure these unprivileged groups are getting their rights. A network has the capacity to create a sense of togetherness, it will also enable the incumbents with new communication tools to influence the government and non-government actors to take measures to protect the vulnerable groups.

Having public defenders, public prosecutors and government representatives as allies is quite strategic. But also lawyers with pro bono work and legal counseling clinics at universities. Connections with social movements, national and international media and, finally, organizations around the world working with a similar scope.

Networks make responding to violations faster and more effective, informing people of what is happening and encouraging their public expression towards resolving problems. Thus, the power to compel the authorities to do their part is stronger and possible.

In the case of people living in informal settlements in Buenos Aires, I believe tha Ministry Social Development plays a key role, as they are the ones who are urbanizing thoss territories. This entity should carry out a participatory processes and make sure the needs of the people living there are not only taken into account but that they are the ones that guide and justify the process. Paralegals also play a main role in this changes, to make sure community participation in urbanizing processes is effective, and that communities can participate on an equal basis with other actors and defend themselves from power abuses.

Considering the injustice I think the police are very key in addressing it, the police commissioner could play a very important role in addressing this injustice. Other who should be involved include all the NGO’s and CSO advocating for human rights

The community who facing an injustice are key in advocating for the change of an injustice they are facing by first identifying the injustice and approaching the relevant authorities involved to assert their rights.

The community who facing an injustice are key in advocating for the change of an injustice they are facing by first identifying the injustice and approaching the relevant authorities involved to demand their rights. In addition, there is need for legal empowerment from non governmental organisations that are related to human rights as some communities lack the knowledge on how to demand their rights. Therefore it is crucial for the community to be empowered.

Profiteering on fuel pump price is one of the injustices I face in my community. To deal with this I will imagine involving the local unit commander of the police division, the office of national security- local branch, civil society organizations, the media houses and traditional authorities. Civil society and the media will be the different actors.

Yes, there are ways I might benefit from the network. For example, the network has put in my hands literature on strategies, procedures and guidelines in dealing with issues. I also know personnel within the network who can be consulted about the issues at hand for some advice.

I strongly agree with Brenda that the police, CSOs and NGOs can be involved and could be the actors.
