Community Forum (Discourse)
Over the past few years many of us have stopped using the “Namati Internal” space on the forum (also known as the Discussion Forum, or Discourse). However, the online spaces and culture group recommends returning to regular use of this space to post major announcements that staff can easily refer back to. Whereas instant messaging posts are somewhat fleeting and can be missed if you’re not online everyday, our online forum serves as an important organization-wide communications archive.
And similar to Slack, users on the community forum can interact in their language of choice.
For this reason, the forum is best used for announcements and conversations that the entire organization needs to see. This includes:
- Organizational Updates: general updates about the strategic direction of Namati, program updates, and/or invitations to give feedback on Namati’s strategy or to specific plans.
- Event Invitations: announcements about Namati team-wide webinars, trainings, or other types of events. Both the pre-event announcement and post-event materials (notes, recording, etc.) are shared here.
- Sharing Articles: about the issues we’re working on or otherwise related to Namati’s work. Note, we’ll be encouraging the sharing of articles on the forum rather than Slack.
- Staffing Announcements: announcements of staff joining or leaving Namati are made here.
On the forum, staff can automatically message all Namatians by typing @namati_staff in the body of the post. Doing so sends an email to all staff. Please only include @namati_staff for the following items:
- Topics for meaningful discussion/engagement
- Critical organization-wide announcements
You can also mention specific staff using the @ symbol and their name as well as specific teams (e.g. @namati_citizenship, @namati_network).
Additionally, we strongly encourage staff to share about their work with the wider Legal Empowerment Network on the Community Forum. This can include sharing articles or news reports about or relevant to our work, sharing the outcomes from a project or initiative, and/or sharing lessons learned. The Global Systems and Network teams will share tips for sharing on the forum and will regularly encourage it among staff.
